Gabriel Frees Celeste

The Secret Vampire

Gabriel Frees Celeste is a rescue attempt that becomes a successful escape only after Gabriel changes from a frightened, compromised bystander into an active ally. His first efforts fail under Samara’s control, but his later decision to disclose what he knows brings Damien and Callum to Celeste and ends her captivity.

Captivity and Gabriel’s Decision

Samara keeps Celeste confined in a basement and tortures her, while Gabriel witnesses the cruelty and recognizes that Celeste does not deserve it. When he visits her with food, he makes her a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich and gives her juice. Celeste is weak and hungry after days without a decent meal; she asks him for help, but he initially goes back upstairs without freeing her.

Gabriel’s hesitation reflects the danger of acting against his mother. Samara is not holding Celeste without a purpose: she describes her captive as leverage, intending to negotiate with Callum for greater power. Gabriel nevertheless resolves to help, setting the attempted rescue against both his loyalty to his mother and Samara’s explicit political use of Celeste.

The Failed Release

Gabriel waits until Samara leaves the Witch’s Hut, then unlocks the basement door and tries to take Celeste upstairs. Samara catches him with Celeste and orders him to stop. When Gabriel pleads for Celeste’s release, Samara uses a spell that weakens them both, pushes Celeste back downstairs, and ties her up again. She then threatens to kill Gabriel if he tries to help Celeste escape. He nods and goes upstairs, leaving the first attempt defeated by force and intimidation.

Samara’s control over Celeste is reinforced by her manipulation of Vlad. After drinking a potion, she takes Carmilla’s form and uses the disguise to persuade Vlad that Carmilla has returned. She binds him with a silver chain and urges him to avenge Carmilla by killing Celeste. The threat is therefore not confined to the basement: while Gabriel is being coerced at home, Vlad is being directed toward the same captive as a target.

Disclosure and Rescue

Gabriel eventually escapes his room and tries Callum’s phone, but Callum ignores the calls. Gabriel then contacts Damien, tells him that he knows where Celeste is, and agrees to meet him and Callum at the college library. There, he admits that Samara is behind Celeste’s kidnapping and explains that he had tried to help but was stopped. The disclosure turns his private, unsuccessful effort into a coordinated search.

Gabriel accompanies Callum and Damien to the hut. When they reach the basement, he breaks the lock; Damien finds Celeste in a very weak state and carries her out. Callum strokes her forehead and directs Damien to take her to the Hospital. The rescue thus depends on more than Gabriel’s access to the captive: his information identifies the location, and Damien’s intervention gets the exhausted Celeste out safely. Callum asks Gabriel for further help as the group leaves the Forest.

Aftermath and Significance

At the Hospital, Celeste is unconscious and traumatized. Gabriel stays beside her and holds her hand while Damien fetches medical staff; the doctor says she will recover. The rescue ends the immediate confinement, but not its effects: Celeste remains physically and emotionally weakened, and Samara is still free to continue her plans. Later, Celeste’s dream of Carmilla tells her that she is special and has a gift, preparing her for the confrontation that follows. Gabriel’s role in the rescue is therefore both practical and consequential: despite Samara’s threats, he supplies the information and access that make Celeste’s eventual escape possible.
